What followed would see them capturing hearts across the world and changing the course of music forever. ABBA Voyage in London is the highly-anticipated and celebratory concert of one of the biggest pop groups of all time, featuring global hits carefully selected by each member of the group. The innovative show is currently set to run until 2025, at which point it is hoped it will be transported internationally, with preliminary plans for it to move to Stockholm or Las Vegas. Planning documents show that the building itself has been designed to be broken down so it can be transported elsewhere. The whole process has been a labour of love for the band, who have long been reluctant to get back on stage together as a four-piece. That same year they appeared together for the first time in 34 years at the launch of their Mamma Mia!
While there are huge screens around the venue, my advice would be to ignore these when the band are on stage; the enlarged screens make it slightly more obvious these are not humans, something you forget completely while watching them on stage. Scandinavia may be the epitome of cool now, but when I was a teenager listening to Bauhaus, admitting you liked ABBA would have felt like social suicide. Benny and Bjorn used their emotional trauma and gave us permission to dance. An underrated legacy in my mind. We may not all have been young, or sweet, or seventeen, but for a sunny Saturday afternoon in London, we were certainly having the time of our life.

ABBA Voyage concert review: A thrilling experience unlike anything you’ve seen before
С другой стороны, конечно, оглядываясь на современную повестку, подобные тексты легко могут восприниматься в штыки. Конечно, никто не ждал от ABBA тонких аранжировок в стиле королевы поп-музыки Тейлор Свифт, или актуальной острой лирики, как у Хаски или Кендрика, или фита с известным рэпером. ABBA не обязана была сделать хоть что-то из вышеперечисленного или продолжать писать хиты, как в середине 70-х. Сами участники говорили, что Voyage записан не ради зарабатывания денег, а для души. Музыканты обещали, что этот альбом — точно последний и никаких записей больше не планируется, группа будет распущена. Abba Voyage is recommended for children aged 6 and older, and an adult must accompany those under 16. The Dance Floor area is not advised for those under 12. Everywhere in the ABBA Voyage Arena has a great view, and the seats you choose will depend on the kind of experience you want to have. The Dance Floor tickets will be the best option if you want the most concert-like experience where you can freely dance the night away. These tickets are for general admission only, and there is no seating. Alternatively, all seated blocks have a clear view of the stage.
The concert features extensive use of flashing lights and video content throughout, as well as lasers and harmless smoke and haze effects. The concert has been carefully planned by all 4 members of ABBA. Although not physically in the Arena, they have created the kind of concert they always wanted — blurring the lines between the real and the digital to give you the best version of themselves.
Abba Voyage is not so much a musical experience as a religious one. The stadium, nestled among blocks of flats and not far from the Olympic tower, looks something like a spaceship; this is spirituality for the future. After four balls of light transform into Abba from below the stage, their presence, no matter how unreal, is almost overwhelming. Instantaneous switches between the Abbatars and the screen sometimes tricks your eye into thinking the giant Abba are also 3D, at an appropriate size for the intensity of the experience.

However, ABBA were adamant. They had, and still have, no interest in playing live again. What many people may not realise is that even in their heyday ABBA toured relatively infrequently. Remarkably, given the level of their success in Britain they topped the UK singles chart nine times , between winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and calling it a day in 1982 they only played live to a paying audience 15 times in the UK!
This was largely because they considered themselves a studio band, and the promotional video became their preferred way to get in front of the record-buying public. There were practical matters too; Agnetha, in particular, did not enjoy the challenge of touring while bringing up small children. So around six years ago, the idea was touted that some kind of live show might be possible without needing the the band members to be there in person. ABBAtars would be highly detailed, digital recreations of Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha and Frida, rendered in three dimensions and brought to life by precise control over the lighting and the environment. ABBA Voyage would require a purpose-built arena — people would have to travel to this one venue to experience the magic. Could they do it or would the ABBA gravy train come to a grinding halt and pull into the sidings at a station called White Elephant and Castle. The risks were enormous.
Waiting for the show to begin I attended the first public performance of ABBA Voyage at the end of last week and can report that it is a truly spectacular evening that absolutely delivers as a stunning live spectacle. ABBA Voyage is like some kind of wonderland. For 90 minutes you believe the unbelievable. I was concerned that I might have to work hard to enjoy the evening, but actually the suspension of disbelief is easy. Because ABBA in their prime are standing right in front of you.
