The 1DG engine familiar with us from the current Prado , Fortuner and HiLux vehicles still makes the same 150kW at 3400rpm and 500Nm between 1600rpm and 2800rpm. This gives it 70Nm more torque than the existing V8 diesel engine in its standard form, but who leaves their V8 diesel standard? The stock 1VD engine makes a lazy 151kW at 3400rpm and 430Nm from 1200rpm to 3200rpm.
The last Land Cruiser Toyota sold in America is known as the 200-series.
My wife and I own a 200-series, which I have extensively modified with a one-off long travel suspension system , and a whole bunch of other fancy stuff. Toyota only ever sold about 3,000 units of the 200-series a year in this country. Ferrari sells more cars than that in this country every year.
Toyota will also be selling versions of the new Land Cruiser with these heritage-inspired round headlamps. Such rigs will be limited to 5,000 units a year—nearly twice the total annual volume of the 200-series. Another reason is that the 200-series was a deeply weird vehicle that only worked for a very specific audience.
To get the most out of a 200-series, you need to have deep pockets, no kids, prioritize off-road durability above anything else, and be willing to modify your expensive vehicle if you want it to work correctly.
